Anyone that's seen John on TV, along with FMS Members who use his DVDs regularly, knows John has his own set of catchphrases and inspirational sayings, which are now being referred to by the media as "John-isms". Many of these are commonly used in newspaper and magazine articles whenever John is interviewed.
Below is a listing of some popular "John-isms". Hopefully they'll help motivate you to achieve all of your fitness and other life goals...just as they have done for thousands of other people nationwide.

- Believe in yourself and you can accomplish anything
- If you dream it you can do it. Never give up on your dreams.
- I am the author of the only dictionary that defines me.
- With Fitness Made Simple all things are possible
- You can always be better. FMS shows you how.
- When you meet people each day try to leave them feeling better. Spread the joy and it will come back to you.
- Bring people up to your level. Don’t sink to theirs.
- Focus on the positive.
- The first step to accomplishing something is believing you can.
- Don’t be an energy vacuum...sucking the joy from people. Negative people can clear a room quicker than a fart.
- If it’s to be it’s up to me.
- You will never rise above the image that you have of yourself.
- Perception is everything. Reality is what you make it. Don’t focus on the way you are. Focus on the way you want to be. Change your mind...change your world.
- Don’t wait to see it before you believe it. Believe it and then you will see it.
- You can make excuses or you can make changes. That choice is always within your power.
- Excuses are like armpits. Everybody has them and most stink. Believe in yourself and don’t let anything stand in the way of attaining your dreams.
- The true mark of a star is being able to shine through difficult times.
- Don't tell me what I should do until you show me what you can do.
- It doesn’t matter where you start out. What matters is where you end up…and that you enjoy the journey.
- The only way you lose is if you quit. Success doesn’t have a time limit.
- Sometimes you win just by persistence...by outlasting the competition.
- What you are today doesn’t necessarily indicate what you’ll be tomorrow.
- It doesn’t matter what you start out as. It matters what you turn yourself into.
- Today’s failure has no bearing on tomorrow’s success.
- Every successful person has failed in the past. They just never let those failures stand in their way.
- “Walk in your authority” and if you have no authority walk in someone else’s until you get some.
- Don’t let other people impose their limitations on your abilities.
- Reality is a self-imposed boundary created in people’s minds so they can find solace in failure or comfort in not even trying. People say a goal is “unrealistic” so they can justify not even trying to achieve it.
- Why live in the real world when mine is so much better?
- Turn obstacles into opportunities. Transform problems into possibilities.
- Fitness is simple. How you look and feel now is the sum total of what you’ve been doing up to this point. If you don’t change what you’re doing, you’ll keep looking and feeling how you do right now.
- With fitness anything is possible. It creates a ripple effect and just makes everything better…physically, mentally, & emotionally.
- Don’t ever accept NO as a final answer for anything that you want, and never take NO as an answer from someone who doesn’t have the authority to say YES.
- Fitness is not a game of how miserable you can make yourself. You have to make it part of your lifestyle...not something you tolerate…but a part that you actually enjoy and look forward to.
- Don’t "settle." It sets a bad precedent. Once you settle for less than what makes you happy in one area of your life it spreads like a cancer throughout every other aspect. "Settlitis", as I call it, is a nasty disease that ruins lives. Never settle...always strive to be better.
- You need to believe that you are the most important person in the world. There is nobody better than you. You have to be your #1 cheerleader because if you aren’t no one else will be.
- The challenge is to be yourself in a world that’s trying to make you like everyone else.
- If somebody says you can’t accomplish something show them you can. By doing so you become empowered and they are enlightened.
- Don’t be "sheep"...just following the herd. Successful people stand out. They’re not one of the crowd. They lead. They don’t follow.
- There is nothing good about being “normal”. Normal is average and who the hell wants to be average?
- That which is different from the norm stands out, leading others to emulate it...thus eventually making it the new norm.
